It all began when he was 14 years old and traded in the accordion his grandfather had bought him - with his permission - for a lead guitar, and subsequently formed his first band "Rock Zock." Today the project, deeply colored from Palatine influences, would be described as alternative punk rock with urban roots.

Andy Kuntz, born and raised in Kaiserslautern, is lead singer of the now 30-year old band Vanden Plas, considered to be Germany's "flagship" in the progressive rock scene, and which continues to perform at world renowned rock festivals including Wacken, Sweden Rock, Bang Your Head, Progpower Europe and Progpower USA.

Numerous theater engagements, among them in Augsburg, Dortmund, Innsbruck, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig, München, Saarbrücken, Trier und Wiesbaden, also show that the versatile singer is not only comfortable on the rock stages of the world. His repertoire of roles include Judas (Jesus Christ Superstar), Berger (Hair), Ché (Evita), Anatoli (Chess), Riff Raff (The Rocky Horror Show), Nostradamus (Nostradamus), The Plant (The Little Shop of Horrors), Friedrich V. (The Autumn of the Winter King), as well as his profound interpretation of the biblical hero Daniel in Vanden Plas' original rock oratorio Ludus Danielis.

The musical Abydos, which Andy Kuntz premiered to great acclaim in 2004 at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, established his career as a playwright. It was followed in 2006 by Christ-0, commissioned by the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. He wrote a modernized libretto to Dumas' The Count of Monte Christo and also contributed musical compositions. Together with Wolfgang Holbein, Germany's most successful fantasy writer, Kuntz brought Blutnacht, an episode from Holbein's Chronicle of the Immortals, to the Pfalztheater stage in 2012.

In 2015, the rock opera Everyman had its world premiere. Kuntz not only wrote the libretto, but also embodied the role of Death, reprising his performance at the Tiroler Landestheater in 2016-17. From there, the piece appeared at the Theater Münster. At the Theater Pforzheim, an exciting new production was celebrated in the trade press and received standing ovations from continuously sold out houses.

With the Piano Soul Bar, the duo Andy Kuntz and Vanden Plas keyboardist Günter Werno present original compositions and unique interpretations of songs across the music spectrum from pop, rock, soul, and jazz, to alternative und musical.

Kuntz is also a welcome guest with international gala bands and can be heard as a studio musician on numerous CDs with international artists.

In the 2019-20 season, Kuntz can be seen and heard Munich and Innsbrück as St. Jimmy in the Green Day musical American Idiot.

Alles begann, als er 14 Jahre alt war. Damals tauschte er das Akkordion, das ihm sein Großvater gekauft hatte, - mit dessen Einverständnis - gegen eine Gitarre ein. Darauf folgte die Gründung seiner ersten Band "Rock Zock". Heute würde man dieses Projekt, das stark von der Region Rheinland-Pfalz beeinflusst war, als "Alternative Punk-Rock mit städtischen Wurzeln" bezeichnen.

Andy Kuntz, geboren und aufgewachsen in Kaiserslautern, ist der Sänger der bereits 30 Jahre bestehenden Band Vanden Plas, die als Deutschlands Flaggschiff der Progressive-Rock-Szene angesehen wird und weiterhin bei weltbekannten Rock-Festivals auftritt, unter anderem in Wacken, Sweden Rock, Bang Your Head, Progpower Europe und Progpower USA.

Zahlreiche Theater-Engagements - darunter in Augsburg, Dortmund, Innsbruck, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig, München, Saarbrücken, Trier und Wiesbaden, zeigen außerdem, dass der vielseitige Sänger nicht nur auf den Rock-Bühnen der Welt zu Hause ist. Das Musical "Abydos", das Andy Kuntz 2004 am Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern mit großem Erfolg uraufgeführt hat, begründete seine Karriere als Theaterautor. Es folgte 2006 das Stück "Christ-0" im Auftrag des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz in München. Hierfür schrieb er ein modernisiertes Libretto zu Dumas' "Der Graf von Monte Christo" und steuerte auch musikalische Kompositionen bei. Zusammen mit Wolfgang Holbein, Deutschlands erfolgreichstem Fantasy-Autor, brachte Kuntz 2012 "Blutnacht", eine Episode aus Holbeins "Chronik der Unsterblichen", auf die Bühne des Pfalztheaters.

2015 feierte die Rock-Oper "Everyman" ihre Weltpremiere. Hier schrieb Kuntz nicht nur das Libretto, sondern verkörperte auf der Bühne die Rolle des "Death". Das Stück wurde 2016-2017 im Tiroler Landestheater wiederaufgenommen. Von dort aus kam das Stück ans Theater Münster. Die neue Inszenierung am Theater Pforzheim wurde von der Presse gefeiert und erhielt Standing Ovations bei durchgehend ausverkauften Häusern.

Im Projekt "Piano Soul Bar" präsentiert das Duo bestehend aus Andy Kuntz und Vanden-PlasKeyboard-Maestro Günter Werno eigene Kompositionen sowie einzigartige Interpretationen von Songs des gesamten Musiksprektrums von Pop, Rock, Soul und Jazz bis hin zu Alternative und Muscials.

Kuntz ist auch gern gesehener Gast bei internationalen Gala-Bands und ist als Studiomusiker auf zahlreichen CDs mit internationalen Künstlern zu hören.

In der Saison 2019-2020 ist Kuntz in München und Innsbruck als "St. Jimmy" im Green-DayMusical "American Idiot" zu sehen und zu hören.
